Dan Moretti and Once Through: Stories

Dan Moretti and Once Through: Stories
Jazz educator and all-around musician Dan Moretti adds to his considerable and impressive resume with a new recording from his band Once Through. Stories is Moretti’s outing from academia, giving ample proof that he can walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Leading a guitar- keyboards quintet, Mr. Moretti spins out 21st century grooves one after another, highlighting his superb keyboards/guitar duos with Tim Ray and Bruce Bartlett, respectively.

For Moretti’s part his playing comes from a controlled Coltrane tradition, taking off on flights of fancy and probing note searches, but it's still within the confines of "sensible" jazz performance. The recording is sensible in that it is not an educational outing or a saxophone seminar. It is intended (oddly enough these days) for pure and simple enjoyment.
