Randy Brecker: Rocks
Cinque delle nove tracce appartengono al repertorio storico dei Brecker Brothers, tre ("First Tune of the Set," "The Dipshit" e "Adina" vengono dal tributo del 2013 The Brecker Brothers Band Reunion) mentre il brano "Pastoral" fu scritto da Randy per ricordare Jaco Pastorius e inciso in Hangin' in the City del 2001.
Sono trascorsi quattro decenni dai sei dischi storici che hanno fatto la storia del gruppo (da The Brecker Brothers del 1975 a Straphangin del 1981) ma l'impatto di quei brani risulta ancora notevole. Emblematiche sono le versioni di "Squids," il contagioso funky del 1977 (da Don't Stop The Music), oppure di "Rocks" uno dei capolavori del disco d'esordio. In quest'ultimo brano il serrato confronto tra il sax tenore di Michael Brecker e il contralto di David Sanborn è sostituito da nuove soluzioni (prima un serrato intervento di Sanborn seguito da Randy) ma non cessa di colpire. Parte del merito va alle orchestrazioni di Jorg Achim Keller, alla notevole sezione ritmica e ai principali solisti dell'orchestra: i sassofonisti Fiete Felsch e Frank Delle, il tastierista Vladyslav Sendecki, il chitarrista Bruno Müller.
Altri bei momenti sono successivi alla stagione storica dei Brothers: la nuova versione di "The Dipshit" che si sviluppa con l'urgenza tipica del soul jazz d'annata e il sempre fresco "Adina" con i luminosi intervento di Randy al flicorno e della moglie Ada Rovatti al soprano.
