Rob Mazurek and Black Cube SP: Return the Tides: Ascension Suite and Holy Ghost
È il caso ad esempio del flusso emozionale, catartico, densissimo, di Return the Tides: Ascension Suite and Holy Ghost, disco che il musicista si è trovato a registrare subito dopo la scomparsa della madre Kathleen e che è a tutti gli effetti un visionario ricordo della sua figura.
I Black Cube SP che lo supportano, con un'umanità e un calore davvero palpabile, in questo "viaggio" personale sono i due abituali sodali nel collettivo Sao Paulo Underground, il batterista Mauricio Takara, il tastierista e manipolatore elettronico Guilherme Granado, cui si aggiungono Thomas Rohrer (sax soprano, rabeca), le percussioni di Rogerio Martins e l'MC Rodrigo Brandão.
Immerso in una atmosfera caliginosa, psichedelica, digitale e tropicalista, il disco (che è suddiviso in 4 lunghe parti) è una discesa quasi sciamanica nelle viscere di un flusso di coscienza doloroso ma in cerca di una, forse impossibile, pacificazione oltre le note.
Vibrante e ipnotico, questo lavoro fatto di fuoco e lacrime, groove e polvere arkestrale di stelle, va vissuto così, sull'onda di un'emozione che è tempestosa e intima, per quanto paradossale possa sembrare l'accostamento tra i due termini.
Mazurek, al di là delle circostanze, è sempre magistrale nelle sue progettualità e questa non fa eccezione. Con tutto il suo carico di umori/rumori globali e di lacerante umanità.
Riposa in pace, Kathleen. Il tuo Rob rimane una delle meraviglie della musica di oggi.
