Starting off on Thursday, May 3 at 7 pm will be the Jim Robitaille Group, featuring Dino Govoni on saxophone, Matt Richard on piano, Dave Zinno on acoustic bass and Chris Poudrier on drums. A winner of the prestigious Thelonius Monk International Jazz Composers Competition and the Great American Song Contest, Jim is respected in an array of musical circles. For this performance, he has re-assembled the rhythm section featured on his 2003 CD To Music, which garnered wide airplay on cable TV jazz channels and made the national jazz radio chart.
Continuing on Thursday, May 10, at 7 pm will be the Joe Beck Trio, with Paul Del Nero on bass and Thierry Arpino on drums. Their recent CD, Tri07, is currently in rotation at over 100 radio stations throughout the U.S. and Europe. Joe has played and recorded with Frank Sinatra, Miles Davis, Lionel Hampton, Barbra Streisand and a long list of others. His mastery of the guitar is complimented by unusual chord voicings and novel approaches to standards, but always with his clean, recognizable sound.
Later in the month, on Thursday, May 31, also at 7 pm, Ron Murray and Vuelo will come to New Bedford for the first time. A master of flamenco styles, Ron combines a Latin sensibility with a deep respect for jazz tradition and an eclectic sense of repertoire. His shows range from traditional and classical pieces to Norah Jones and the Beatles. Always clear and with a great flow, Ron is able to connect with audiences that go beyond the usual jazz fans.
On Thursday, June 7 at 7 pm, the last concert in the series will be John Stein and his band. John is a long time guitar professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston, with 7 CDs as a leader, many of which received rave reviews and widespread airplay. John recorded his most recent CD in Brazil, and the relaxed nature of that country's music is a pervasive influence on the overall sound of John's playing and group. Brazilian flutist and Berklee Assistant Professor Fernando Brandao extends the tasteful, understated style for an evening of beautiful music. The rhythm section includes Dave Landoni on bass and Berklee Professor Yoron Israel on drums.
