WILLINGBORO, NJ -- People clapped their hands and danced as the sounds of Cintron resonated through Mill Creek Park yesterday at the 27th annual Willingboro Jazz Festival.
I like the Latin jazz," Mount Laurel resident Albert Rocha said.
His wife Hisae added, You can dance or listen. Even the kids like it."
Cintron, founded by Willingboro resident Edgardo Cintron, was one of many to perform at the festival, which began shortly after noon and went on into the night. The Willingboro High School
Jazz Band kicked off the event, followed by Blue Method, Marilyn Marshall and the Steve Tirpak Ensemble & Guests.
Spyro Gyra, a jazz fusion band from New York, headlined the show. The five-member group, which has released over 25 albums, combines jazz, R&B, funk and pop music.
The event also included something new this year. Instead of playing recorded music between performers, the Rhythm Kings Dixieland Band traveled through the crowd playing in front of small groups.
We are strolling," clarinetist Jerry Rife said.
Rife said this was the group's first visit to the jazz festival and they thought it was"outstanding."
