Triad Ear Training
At first glance, triads would seem not to have much of a role in jazz. So why bother with them? Triads do play a huge role- slash chords, upper structure triads, triad pairs, not to mention John Coltrane's three tonic system are all based on triads. If you play any pop-oriented jazz you will see them a lot. Beyond those compelling reasons is the fact that triads are the building blocks of the bread and butter chords of jazz: seventh chords. This lesson will help you learn to hear and identify by ear the five types of triads- major, minor, diminished, augmented and suspended- in all three inversions using randomized quizzes with instant feedback.
