Sam Trapchak, bass; Tom Chang, guitar; Michael Attias, alto sax; Arthur Vint, drums. Bassist Sam Trapchak heads up this dynamic, newly formed quartet on the heels of recording it's first album over the summer. Although jazz is their common ground, the band's unique sound is the result of a proficiency in a wide range of styles such as heavy metal, afro-beat and country. The concert will feature innovative and highly varied compositions by Trapchak and guitarist Tom Chang. Cover $10

REZ ABBASI'S INVOCATION
Vijay Iyer, piano; Rudresh Mahanthappa, alto saxophone; Johannes Weidenmueller, bass; Dan Weiss, drums. Guitarist Rez Abbasi returns to the Cornelia St. Cafe to premiere the culmination of his Chamber Music America commission, Motherland Suite. His quintet, Invocation, features a stellar not to be missed lineup. The group will hit the studio the following week to record their sophomore album. With the musical results and subsequent accolades from their 2009 debut album, Things To Come, the music of Motherland Suite, promises to be at least as contagious and vibrant. Motherland Suite draws upon the devotional qawwali music of Abbasi's Pakistani heritage. Qawwali is most commonly known in America through the body of work of the late great singer, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Cover $15

THE POETRY OF EMILY DICKINSON
Barbara Dana, actor; Amelia Campbell, actor; Simon Mulligan, pianist/composer; Jacqueline Horner Kwiatek, mezzo-soprano. Barbara Dana has had an enduring interest in Emily Dickinson. An author as well as an actor, she spent the last ten years working on two books about the poet, a novel for young adults A Voice of Her Own: Becoming Emily Dickinson and Wider than the Sky: Essays and Meditations on the Healing Power of Emily Dickinson of which she is co-editor. She is currently playing Emily Dickinson in William Luce's The Belle of Amherst throughout the US and Canada.
Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek is a member of the world famous vocal quartet Anonymous 4, performing all over the world and recording many award winning CDs, including the Billboard chart-topping American Angels. She also has a reputation as a versatile and accomplished soloist,performing music from Bach to Babbitt. Recent solo work has included appearances with The Washington Bach Consort DC, the Bach Sinfonia DC, Carmel Bach Festival, The Folger Consort, Parthenia, and the premiere of new opera and concert works with Albany Symphony Orchestra´s contemporary music group Dogs of Desire. Jacqueline has also appeared as a soloist in the world premieres of Richard Einhorn's new oratorio about Charles Darwin, The Origin, at SUNYOswego, and The Loathly Lady, a comic opera by Paul Richards and Wendy Steiner at the University of Pennsylvania.
British pianist Simon Mulligan celebrated his début aged 19 at London's Barbican Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; a month later he recorded his first compact disc under the direction of Yehudi Menuhin. This led to a seven-year collaboration and friendship, culminating in what was to be Lord Menuhin's final concert in Dusseldorf, March 1999.
Described by The Times of London as 'the most abundantly gifted of pianists,' Simon Mulligan performs and records internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. His most recent recordings include a disc of Beethoven sonatas and a live recital in Switzerland for Alexis Weissenberg's Birthday. His first solo album for Sony Classical, Piano" won great acclaim throughout Europe, South America and the Far East, and featured in various television, radio, and internet campaigns. He has made over twenty recordings for compact disc, including performances of Martinu's Triple Concerto (conducted by Menuhin), Rozsa's Spellbound concerto with the BBC Symphony conducted by Slatkin, Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition, his own Suite for Piano and Orchestra, and the Nocturnes of Chopin. He has made four discs for the Nimbus label, including a première recording of music by pianist Alexis Weissenberg.
Amelia Campbell has been a working actor for over 20 years, on and off Broadway, in film and in television. Some favorites include Our Country's Good on Broadway(for which she was nominated for a Tony Award); the two hander Tryst" at The Promenade, Abbie in Desire Under the Elms" at ART; Hannah in The Night of the Iguana" at BTF; Philip Roth in Karthoum" with LAByrinth at the Public, and most recently, Hermia in A Midsummer Nights Dream" at La Jolla Playhouse, and the Tim Blake Nelson film Leaves Of Grass."
