It was a nice sunny day in Jamaica Queens, New York when at 9:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 12th, 2005 at the Springfield Gardens United Methodist Church many musicians and friends came out to say goodbye" to a teacher and friend-ENOS PAYNE, jazz pianist. The Church was jammed with many friends, family, musicians that included; Barry Harris, James Stowe, Alvin Flithe (winky), David Jackson, Stan Hope, Myrna Lake, Eric Lemon, Patience Higgins, Walter Kelly, Hank Johnson (Stuart H. Tresser), Rodney Kendrick, and others. The service can only be described as a warm emotional outpouring of spirit that celebrated the life of Enos Payne. Enos's parents were there also; Clarence Payne and Edna Payne, and the love for this Jazzmobile instructor, pianist and educator was clearly evident by the large turnout. The death of Enos Payne comes at a time just when he was going to establish a new school. He was loved by many people and will be missed by many. If you visit my website http://www.jazzbonerecords.com you will see in my tribute section his photo as well as a few other great jazz musicians we have lost. Enos was born on March 31, 1955 and died on Sunday, February 6th, 2005 from an anurism of the brain. He is survived by his mother and father. Enos was an only child, but he had a mission and love for jazz music and followed his dream to promote and preserve and educate.
