"A graceful, silken voice..." —THE NEW YORK TIMES

“Virtually every important jazz singer to emerge in the past two decades has had to find a way to expand the familiar repertoire of golden-age standards. Stevie covers the waterfront. Effortless swing, and a radiant wit…a self-possessed tour de force” —Gary Giddins

Stevie Holland returns to the recording studio with Life Goes On, a collection of Holland’s trademark picks of lesser-known gems and classics from the contemporary pop world and American Songbook. Also included are original songs penned by Holland and her longtime collaborator, award-winning composer Gary William Friedman, who did the inventive arrangements on the recording as well. The 10-track set begins with Johnny Mercer and Hoagy Carmichael’s, “Skylark,” set to a fresh and swinging groove.

The journey continues with “Out Of This World” (Harold Arlen/Johnny Mercer), “Tea For Two” (Vincent Youmans/Irving Caesar, with a nod to vocalist/bandleader Joe Mooney), “Never” (Friedman/Holland), “Another Grey Morning” (James Taylor), “April Snow” (Sigmund Romberg/Dorothy Fields), “Tomorrow’s Looking Brighter Today” (Friedman/Holland), “99 Miles From L.A.” (Albert Hammond/Hal David), “Not While I’m Around” (Stephen Sondheim) and “Life Goes On” (Benard Ighner).

Grammy award winner Todd Barkan serves as producer of Life Goes On, contributing his vast experience to the shaping of this album. Holland’s gifted trio consists of Randy Ingram, piano; Peter Brendler, bass; and Jeff Davis, drums. Renowned trumpeter Nicholas Payton guests on three tracks, and a string quartet appears on two tracks.

Recorded in January 2015, Life Goes On is Holland’s fifth release of standards and original material from 150 Music. Her previous recordings include More Than Words Can Say and Before Love Has Gone, which was chosen by USA TODAY as a top critics’ CD pick of the year, and selected as an Album Pick by All Music Guide.

Holland’s career has not only seen her grow through the release of her recordings, but also with her starring role in the one-woman Off-Broadway musical LOVE, LINDA: THE LIFE OF MRS. COLE PORTER. Created by Holland and Friedman, LOVE, LINDA enjoyed a successful engagement at the York Theater in 2013-14, directed by TONY-winner Richard Maltby Jr. The show’s popularity led to it being picked up for licensing by theater publisher Tams-Witmark. Robert Kimball, author of The Complete Lyrics Of Cole Porter called LOVE, LINDA “one of the best Cole Porter shows ever.”

Stevie Holland's abilities as a dynamic performer have earned her acclaim in a variety of musical worlds spanning clubs, theaters and concert halls. Her vocal interpretations, stylings and confidence with swing on her recordings have earned her respect with jazz critics.

Holland’s passion and straightforward musicianship shine through on this new release, and Stevie assures us, that yes, indeed, Life Goes On—and, it’s going to go on, with beautiful music.
