Celebrating their 20th anniversary since their historic first recording, “Four In One", one of the most respected jazz collaboratives, Sphere is back- swinging hard with founding members Kenny Barron, Buster Williams and Ben Riley along with newcomer Gary Bartz, who replaced Charlie Rouse, the fourth founding member who passed away in 1988. Sphere formed in 1979 to honor the music of Thelonious Monk and used his middle name for their moniker. In an odd turn of events, they were in the studio recording their first record on the day Monk died, Feb. 17, 1982. Rouse and Riley were part of the legendary pianist/composer
