Jazztopad is back and celebrating its eighth edition in some style, with a star-studded program featuring some of the very best jazz musicians from Europe and the United States. Legendary saxophonist Sonny Rollins gets things rolling on the 6th November, in what will be one of only four European shows for the tireless octagenarian.

Other highlights include Bobo Stenson and John Falt, a world premier by the Fred Hersch Trio with the Symphony Orchestra of Wroctaw Philaharmonic, Dave Liebman and Richie Beirach, and yet another world premier, by Uri Caine, Ben Perowsky and Lutostawski Quartet.

In keeping with the festival's commitment to promoting young, up and coming talent, Jazztopad is delighted to be part of Take Five: Europe, an itnitiative supported by five European jazz festivals. As part of this program, Jazztopad will offer emerging jazz musicians a week-long, in-residence performance slot, as well as the opportunity to perform at other European jazz festivals, and in addition, guidance and advice on the business side of pursuing a career in jazz.

The project “24hr Run: What's in the Fridge?" will bring live jazz to bars, cafes and a host of other venues in Wroctaw for a marathon 24-hour run, gauranteed to test the endurance of even the staunchest jazz fans!

Festival director Piotr Turkiewicz says: “For both myself and the entire festival team, the Jazztopad festival is first of all a great celebration of music, that is perceptibly distinct from regular seasonal concerts. For this reason, the presentation of the tailor-made projects is particularly important to me. The entire pleasure and value is in the creation of exceptional projects that are challenging for both the musicians as well as the audience."

All in all, November in Wroctaw promises to be a very special month for jazz lovers.
