CTA Records is proud to announce the YouTube release of the jazz music video for guitarist Rale Micic's song “Serbology." Almost a year in the making, this project breaks new ground in that it was financed directly by fans using crowdfunding and may be seen as both a music video and a short film.

Founded by Creatives for Creatives, NY-based crowdfunder RocketHub selected Micic's project to inaugurate its Music Video category and his campaign reached its goal in less than two months.

“Fans really responded to the idea that jazz deserves a good music video like any other form of music today," says Micic. “And that it was the fans themselves who were making it possible was humbling. We knew we had to make something good."

Micic teamed up with award-winning Writer-Director-Producer Greg MacDonald, who has helped hundreds of musical artists gain exposure through television and video. MacDonald wrote the script, directed the video, and, along with Micic, produced the project.

“Rale's compositions are so pure and evocative, they just seem to naturally lend themselves to telling a story," says MacDonald. “We could have documented a performance, but we really wanted to give jazz fans a different kind of experience, one that would also appeal to music lovers around the world who wouldn't normally call themselves 'jazz fans.'"

Eager to capitalize on the high-end look of digital SLR technology, MacDonald brought in Director of Photography Jeff Turick. Turick has worked with such accomplished filmmakers as Ken Burns and had recently won Canon's “The Story Beyond the Still" competition, a contest designed to showcase the filmmaking capabilities of its 5D and 7D Mark II cameras, where he worked closely with DSLR pioneer Vincent Laforet.

With locations in Chinatown and Tompkins Square Park in New York City and in Westchester County, shooting took place over four days and featured a mostly non-professional cast.

A work-in-progress version of the video was broadcast to two million Serbian television viewers when Micic was invited to appear on the popular TV Pink's Morning Show late last summer.

“People constantly told me how good it looked," says Micic, “and we weren't even done! Now that it is, I hope the many fans who supported the video are as proud of it as I am."

Micic and MacDonald are currently looking at television distribution in Europe, Japan, and the U.S. and to enter the video into festivals worldwide. For inquiries, please contact rale at www.ralemicic.com.

Rale Micic has been hailed as “one of the most interesting young guitarists on the New York City scene" by All About Jazz and has worked many top New York musicians including jazz trumpet great Tom Harrell, bassist Scott Colley, Gregory Hutchinson, etc. “Serbology" is featured on his latest album, “3," available on CTA Records at all major online music stores.
