Brilliant mix of styles at Rouje: jazz and hip-hop!

Quebec, Thursday April 12th - Quebec Nu-Jazz Productions presents, for its second happening of 2007, the One Night Jazz / Hip-Hop Event 4/20 on April 20th at Galerie Rouje. Quebec will finally be the host for talented musicians who attempt to create a bridge between jazz and pop music! For this special event, Jazz For Dat Azz (J4DA) from New York will spread the news: jazz is hip! The JMC Project, from Quebec, will open the evening and warm up the place, just like they did at the Tam-tam Caf for their previous concert.

Tickets are on presale for 10$, and will be 15$ at the door.

Although the members of J4DA met at Berkley School of Music in Boston, the sextet is now based in New York City. They have always wanted to express the essence of jazz and hip- hop. The band is formed by Igmar Thomas, trumpet, which gained experience from well- known artists such as Lionel Hampton, Roy Hargrove and Joe Lovano. Donald Lee plays the saxophone, Frank Abraham, is the bass player, Lyndon Rochelle is at the drums, Tuffus Zimbabwe at the keyboards and Bridan “Raydar" Ellis completes the hip-hop sound with his rhymes.

The JMC Project was born in Qubec city, in 2006. Musicians Philippe Cyr, Marjorie Fiset, Guillaume Tondreau, William Ct and Jod Lamarche met at Laval University. Under the direction of Philippe Cyr, the band members put in concrete form what others create, blending jazz with the rhythm and qualities of hip-hop. Poet Pette Tardif joined the crew to add his rhyming touch, which caracterises the JMC Project. Improvisation also takes an important part of the group's original songs.

Quebec Nu-Jazz was founded to promote jazz music among young people, who wouldn't have had the chance to discover it by themselves. The QNJ began in October 2006 to produce concerts with Elizabeth Shepherd Trio, who was nominated for a Juno this year. Marcus Monteiro Quartet came in November of the same year, and greatly impressed a Montreal producer: he decided to invite the band to Montreal to play at the Del Arte Espace in May 2007. One Night Jazz / Hip-Hop Event 4/20 will certainly seduce Quebec city. Tickets in presale will be available at CHYZ, room 0236, Maurice-Pollack building, Laval University, at CKRL office, 405, 3rd avenue, and also at the Galerie Rouje on business hours.
