This album is unique from the perspective that it is a completely live recording from musicians who had never played together in these groups before, and with no rehearsal.

Nu Jazz Entertainment—a long time producer of high quality audio and video content in the genre of jazz—announced the June 2020 release of the first recording from the critically acclaimed 2018 Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Competition, entitle The ELLIS MARSALIS International Jazz Piano Competition presents: THE FINALISTS, exclusively on Amazon’s Digital store and as a CD on June 19, 2020, and on other digital services world-wide on July 14, 2020 on Nu Jazz Records

About The Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Competition The Finalists

The Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Competition, named after NEA Jazz Master, legendary educator and patriarch of “America’s First Family of Jazz” was held in the City of Huntington, West Virginia (U.S.A.) in partnership with the Nu Jazz Agency. The 2-day competition was designed to challenge competitors’ skills and abilities across different genres, styles, and formats of the jazz idiom. Seven finalists were selected from over 160 entries from 13 different countries to vie for over $200,000 in cash and prizes.

Late Show with Stephen Colbert bandleader Jon Batiste, and special guest judge NEA Jazz Master Branford Marsalis, selected the winners after over nine hours of competition. That story will be told in the second release of the series: The Huntington International Jazz Festival presents THE WINNERS of the ELLIS MARSALIS International Jazz Piano Competition, to be released in September 2020.

Available in digital and CD formats, the core album contains (14) songs, comprised of one original tune composed by each competitor and one jazz classic, culled from performances over the four segments of the competition. “This album is unique from the perspective that it is a completely live recording from musicians who had never played together in these groups before, and with no rehearsal,” says Executive Producer, Jerald Miller. “The music is spontaneous, and a living breathing being, that was developed on stage, and shows the characteristics of what all jazz fans love about the music. With a cast of players that are both men and women across ethnic divides in recognition of the world-wide community that jazz music represents.”

The digital versions, have different bonus tracks on iTunes and Amazon, that are exclusive to each platform, along with an 8-page digital booklet with liner notes written by Ken Dryden available exclusively on iTunes to the Deluxe and Gold Editions. Additionally, the iTunes Platinum Edition has a bonus video, that is customary on all Nu Jazz Records releases. The CD retails for $16.99 and is available exclusively on Amazon, while the digital albums retail price starts at $9.99 and is available on streaming and digital platforms world-wide.

There will be a special online album premier watch party of the album on the Nu Jazz Discovery Facebook Group. This premiere will include an exclusive interview with competition Creator & Executive Producer Jerald Miller and show never before seen video clips & photographs, along with a “first listen" of selected tracks from the album on June 18, 2020 from 2:00pm- 2:30 pm (CST- US).
