With the tragedy of Hurricane Katrina still ensconced in the minds of the American public, despite it being a political hot potato there are those who are grateful for the relief efforts of countries including Kuwait, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, Morocco, and Senegal.
AAJ contributor Ian Patterson caught up with the New Orleans All-Star Brass Band (formed through Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Centre Foundation) while in Bangkok, Thailand during its state-sponsored tour.
The discussion ranged from the rich musical heritage of New Orleans to outrage at the number of issues that remain unresolved about the catastrophic event and its ongoing impact.
