New "Jazz at D.B.I.F." Series Brings Biggest Names, Brightest Stars

DAYTONA BEACH, FL The 17-day Daytona Beach International Festival (DBIF), April 16 through May 2, will include a new series of concert performances devoted to jazz music.

The Jazz at DBIF concert series features an incredible lineup of some the biggest names in jazz from the iconic Chuck Mangione to the charismatic Chris Botti. The series also includes performances by jazz quartet The Yellowjackets with guitar virtuoso Mike Stern, and Cuban pianist, arranger, composer and bandleader Chuchito Valdes.

Chris Botti
Thursday, April 16, 8pm
Peabody Auditorium, Daytona Beach
Legendary jazz artist Chris Botti will astound audiences at the opening concert of the 2009 Daytona Beach International Festival with one night of incredible artistry from his new album, Italia. Featuring music inspired by the romance of Italy, the performance will recall the colorful sights, sounds and vivid scenes of picturesque Italy. The charismatic trumpeter Botti released his first solo album in 1995 and has remained popular on both jazz and pop charts. Described by The New York Times as having a “sumptuous, limpid instrumental voice," he maintains one of the busiest touring schedules in the industry. Tickets: $53, $48, $42, $36

The Yellowjackets with Mike Stern

For nearly 30 years, the Yellowjackets have remained at the forefront of contemporary jazz with a signature sound that is a vibrant mix of rock, funk and other musical styles. The Grammy-award-winning quartet will showcase its critically acclaimed sound and creative brilliance with songs from Lifecycle, the groups' first recording in 15 years to feature a guitarist in this case, the high-energy, exceptionally talented Mike Stern. Chuck Mangione

Blowing his way into Daytona Beach, music legend Chuck Mangione will unleash his boundless energy and brazen enthusiasm during one remarkable flugelhorn performance. Mangione has released more than 30 albums since 1960, rocketing to international success in 1978 with his jazz-pop single, “Feels So Good." During his stellar career, multiple Grammy-winner Mangione has collaborated with countless artists, including jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie and Chick Corea, and taken his exceptional talent to stages around the world. Chuchito Valdes Jazz Trio

The music of Jesus “Chuchito" Valdes has been described by The Chicago Tribune as “jazz improvisation of the most sophisticated kind." Pianist, arranger, composer and bandleader, Valdes comes from a prestigious musical family in Cuba. He has led the renowned Cuban band, Irakere, for two years, performing at festivals and venues around the world. Tickets: $28
