Room Eleven 07/01, Supermarket
A spicy Dutch cocktail of bossa nova, folk, blues and pop interpreted by a jazzy rhythm section, colourful horns and funky guitars, Room Eleven is known for their effervescent live gigs. Formed in 2001, word of mouth quickly spread in Amsterdam about this quintet and in 2006 they released their debut album, Six White Russians & a Pink Pussycat.
The Bug 07/04, The Social
As a part of the UK's Dubstep scene, The Bug offers up a mix of dancehall, industrial hip-hop, and electronic music with influences ranging from Miles Davis and John Coltrane to the Wu-Tang Clan and Public Enemy. The diverse music style can be attributed to the collection of over 20 musicians that have contributed to The Bug since its inception in 1997. The Bug's mix of influences and collective performance style translates into to a live show that is high energy, high impact and highly danceable.
Van der Graaf Generator 07/04, Opera House
An English progressive rock / experimental band that achieved great success in Italy during the 70s, Van der Graaf Generator earned an intense cult following as one of the eras preeminent art rock groups. Named after a piece of electric equipment designed to produce static electricity, today the group is composed of Peter Hammill, Hugh Banton and Guy Evans.
Alain Caron Band 07/05, Nathan Phillips Square
Hailing from Montreal, bassist Alain Caron and his electric quartet will bring their unique jazz sound to Nathan Phillips Square in a double bill concert with Sadao Watanabe. The electric quartet includes John Roney on piano and Paul Brochu on drums.
