Sources tell Hypebot that the primary reason for yesterday's abrupt shift of imeem users to MySpace Music was because the deal only worked economically if imeem were shuttered. That meant that they no longer had the licenses or assets to continue operating the site. MySpace essentially bought the few parts of imeem that it cared about after the shutdown.

Visitors to imeem are now directed straight to MySpace Music and the special page above where they are told that “imeem is now part of MySpace".

Artist pages are gone. The only explanation offered is, “We suggest you sign up as a MySpace Music artist". The net is ablaze with unhappy fans. Why? “MySpace is working to migrate your imeem playlist to MySpace Music. We'll email you about that once we have more details." MySpace better hurry.
