Praised by Downbeat as a star of American music," pianist, composer, and educator Michele Rosewoman has made her mark in the jazz world as a highly original artist by fusing Afro-Cuban styles with intelligent and modern post-bop while also integrating Cuban religious music into her uniquely New Yor-Uban" sound. Throughout her varied career, Michele has performed with such jazz luminaries as Julius Priester, Oliver Lake, Reggie Workman, Celia Cruz, Paquito D'Rivera, and the Cuban master vocalist and drummer Orlando Puntilla" Rios. As a bandleader, she has led two ensembles, New Yor-Uba and Quintessence, to tremendous critical acclaim.
Michele's most recent album, The In Side Out, was released in 2006 on Advance Dance Disques. The album, fusing jazz with Afro- Cuban rhythms, R&B, and funk, features Michele's ensemble Quintessence along with special guests including David Fiucynzki and Josh Roseman.
