Bret Primack, aka Jazz Video Guy, is now assisting musicians by posting their videos on YouTube. In addition to his own productions with such artists as Billy Taylor, Sonny Rollins and Joe Lovano, Bret helps other musicians post previously produced video. Such artists as Denny Zeitlin, David Liebman and Hammond B-3 wizard Tony Monaco are now featured on YouTube thanks to Bret.
Many musicians have existing video that has been produced during their careers. I capture that video, either on VHS or DVD, edit and encode in the proper formats, then post it on YouTube." In addition to YouTube, Google and AOL Video placement, Bret utilizes the sites' free embedded players to post artist videos on their own sites. Video used to be cost prohibitive for independent artists, but with YouTube and Google offering free streaming, everyone can now join the Digital Video Revolution, with lowed production costs, and a free distribution medium."
YouTube is currently one of the fastest-growing websites on the Web where 100 million clips are watched and an additional 65,000 new videos are uploaded every day. Video is the hottest content on the web right now," Bret explains. Of course there's plenty of stupid pet tricks, but you can find Coltrane, Cecil Taylor and Lee Morgan on YouTube, as well. It's a great place for all artists to showcase their work as more and more people are searching for Jazz content."
Bret's YouTube videos include the EPK he produced for Rollins' new CD, Sonny, Please, as well as the video liner notes he created for Lovano's new Blue Note CD Streams of Expression. The idea is to repurpose the content, to post it on a number of outlets. The video goes on artist's websites, on special project specific websites (www.streamsofexpression.com), and on YouTube and Google Video, which both offer free video streaming. This way, they are seen by the largest possible audience." Thus far, nearly 25,000 people have seen the videos Bret created for Sonny Rollins.
