Lineup Announced for 5th Annual Rochester International Jazz Festival June 9-17

Rochester, New York--April 6, 2006-- The fifth annual Rochester International Jazz Festival presented by Heluva Good Quality Foods, returns to Rochester June 9-17, 2006. The spectacular nine-day event will feature more than 170 concerts and 600 musicians representing more than a dozen countries.

Woody Allen and His New Orleans Jazz Band will open the Festival June 9th in a rare performance outside New York City that is an exclusive benefit for the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund. Other headliners include the godfather of soul James Brown, Phil Woods, McCoy Tyner, Toots Thielemans, Wayne Shorter, Susan Tedeschi and Etta James, Little Feat, Soulive and Dickey Betts.

“We're cookin' up a musical storm in Rochester," said John Nugent, Producer and Artistic Director. “RIJF's ingredients include multiple genres of creative improvised music. Add a dash of New Orleans old, a dash of New Orleans new. Throw in a main course of jazz legends, open up a fantastic bottle of blues and finish off with a dessert sampling of the finest emerging artists from around the world. RIJF's plate offers something for everybody's taste buds!"

The Festival is presented in four series: the Club Pass Series, Senator Jim Alesi Eastman Theatre series, more than 50 free concerts on two outdoor stages and in the Museum and Gallery Family Series.

Tickets for headliner Senator Jim Alesi Eastman Theatre Series shows are on sale now at Ticketmaster/Ticket Express outlets, www.ticketmaster.com, and www.rochesterjazz.com. Ticketed show prices range from $15-$95 plus service charge. Club Passes are on sale at the same locations for $95 plus service charge through the Festival.

“An important element we wanted to incorporate this year was a major tribute to New Orleans," said Marc Iacona, Festival Executive Director. “In addition to the spectacular opening night with Woody Allen we are also presenting five New Orleans-based groups, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Papa Grows Funk, Asylum Street Spankers, Red Stick Ramblers and Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers."
