The deadline for proposals for the 6th annual International Society for Improvised Music conference and festival has been extended to October 4. The event, to be held at William Patterson University in Wayne, New Jersey, February 16-19, 2012, will feature performances by leading improvisers and workshops by respected academics in the broad field of improvised music.

Keynote artists and performers will include Pyeng Threadgill and trio; David S. Ware and Muhammad Ali; Ikue Mori, Sylvie Courvoisier and Susie Ibarra; Mulgrew Miller; Robert Dick and Tom Buckner; Karl Berger with University of Michigan Creative, Arts Orchestra.

ISIM is calling for proposals for performances workshops, panel discussions and lectures from across the creative fields, including music, dance, theatre, film, poetry and performance art. Proposals can be submitted on the ISIM website.

Each annual conference/festival promises to be a one-of-a-kind gathering. Stephen Nachmanovitch, a keynote speaker at the 2009 event, wrote on New Music Box of being “swept away into an on-going and nourishing community of musicians."

ISIM is an organization dedicated to promoting and facilitating performance, education and research in improvised music.
