On January 11, President/CEO Randy Lennox announced the promotion of Donna Lidster to Vice-President, marketing, Universal/Island/Def Jam. She was Director of marketing. In her new role, the UIDJ marketing and promotion teams, as well as the classics & jazz departments will now report to her. Three CDs in Digi-Paks With Liner Notes Due for Release on January 29

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Noble Rot, the label subsidiary of Collectors' Choice devoted to preserving great early indie-rock albums of the '80s and '90s, will release three new reissues on January 29: Praying Mantis bv Jim Carroll, Beautiful Thing by Ben Vaughn and What We Had by Wednesday Week. Catalina Bar Owner Bob Popescu, 77, Dies

LOS ANGELES -- Bob Popescu, who converted a former Italian restaurant into Catalina Bar and convinced jazz great Dizzy Gillespie to play there, has died. He was 77.
