Jason Crane, All About Jazz contributor and host of The Jazz Session podcast, is riding his bicycle in the Lance Armstrong Foundation's LIVESTRONG Challenge Ride in Philadelphia on August 23. You can win jazz prizes and help him raise money to fight cancer at the same time.

“I'm riding because cancer has had a huge impact on my family and friends," Crane said. “It's hurt my mother; my grandmother; my great-grandmother; my aunt; my cousin; my great-uncle; my friend Travis, who died last year from testicular cancer; and most recently, my grandfather and childhood hero Bernie Flanders, who passed away in July after his cancer came back. He was the one who introduced me to jazz."

Crane has already made his first $1,000, and as promised, he shaved his head when he reached that target. He is trying to raise at least $1,926.

Why that number?

“The ride is in Philadelphia. John Coltrane, who is one of my musical heroes, has a strong Philly connection, and he was born in 1926. Plus, all my prizes are jazz related, so it seemed appropriate."

For every $5 donation you make at Crane's LIVESTRONG page, you'll receive a ticket for a prize drawing that will take place on August 30. The winners will be announced on The Jazz Session on August 31. Prizes include autographed CDs, LP reissues, and two tickets to see Dave Brubeck in the Berkshires in western Massachusetts on October 17. More prizes are being added every day.
