The Evening of Jazz has been an annual concert at Newark Academy to showcase it’s numerous jazz ensembles. This year we are dedicating our concert to the families of Sandyhook and the Greene family. We will have three world class musicians joining our award winning jazz program—Marcus Printup, trumpeter of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Steve Turre, trombonist currently with the Saturday Night Live Band, and Wayne Escoffery tenor saxophonist currently with Tom Harrell's Quintet and the Mingus Big Band. Please take a look at the links below of our guest musicians and the Greene Family.

All proceeds will go directly to the families of Sandy Hook and to the Ana Grace Fund. Ana Grace Marquez-Greene was one of the children killed in the Newtown shootings. Her parents, Jimmy and Nelba are dear friends of mine that go back to my college years. My family and I have visited the Greene's several times to support them in anyway we can and we have been in awe of how Jimmy, Nelba and their nine year old son Isaiah have been dealing with this devastating and surreal tragedy. I thought it would be fitting to honor Ana's memory with music, as she was musically gifted. In our efforts to raise funds for this worthy cause, we hope you can join us on April 12th for this special evening of music.

Please email [email protected] to purchase tickets ($10) or to make a donation.

Thank you,
Julius Tolentino
Newark Academy, Jazz Director
