The year 2013 marks trumpeter Dave Douglas's 50th birthday year and he will celebrate it this week at the Jazz Standard March 28th-31st with his new quintet featuring saxophonist Jon Irabagon, the pianist Matt Mitchell, the bassist Linda May Han Oh and the drummer Rudy Royston.

“The strength of the quintet," Douglas argues, “is a testament to the health of the current jazz scene. “It’s turning into a really rich environment of growth and inspiration in the music."

Douglas' label Greenleaf Music is offering two tickets to a set on Saturday or Sunday in exchange for sharing your first or most powerful musical memory on their blog or your social media streams with use of the hashtag #ddTimeTravel.

Following on the heels of the critically acclaimed Be Still, trumpeter/composer/bandleader/label founder and musical community builder Dave Douglas and his label Greenleaf Music will release Time Travel on April 9, an all-instrumental follow- up to the album Stereophile called “one of the best-sounding new recordings [we]'ve heard by anybody in quite a while." Likewise, The New York Times called the album “gorgeous and contemplative," while the Los Angeles Times deigned it, “a lush collection of hymnals and elegies reworked into widescreen jazz."

Also in 2013, Douglas is setting out to reach all 50 U.S. states in person in the hopes of making jazz available to people who might not otherwise have access to it as we do in major cities. Additionally, Douglas, who is an avid runner, cyclist and outdoorsman, says that part of the reason for the 50 states project is to perform more outside in unlikely locations. Among the planned events is a hike-in concert at Greenleaf Hut in New Hampshire's White Mountains.
