Chicago jazz vibraphonist Carl Leukaufe has died at the age of 76 years on Wednesday, August 18th, 2010...after fifty years of playing jazz, vibraphonist Carl Leukaufe made his one and only recording as a leader with the 1996 release of the album Warrior on Delmark Records that offered several mainstream bop standards. He had been compared to Milt Jackson due to his easy going style" but technically considered to be not quite as proficient at improvisation as Jackson. The recording session included the likes of Chicago pianist Jodie Christian, tenorist Lin Halliday, the former Chicago Playboy Club pianist Joe Iaco, trombonist Kevin Quail, Richie Pardo bass and drummer Robert Barry. Some of the tracks on the album included Airegin," Veird Blues," and Star Eyes," Pannonica," Tricotism." Leukaufe was to take part in a public performance at the upcoming Chicago Jazz Festival in a three-vibraphone group...that performance will now become a memorial to him. Funeral arrangements are pending. More details are here in an article by Neil Tesser of Examiner.com.
