With its rhythmic tenderness, cross-cultural spirit, and jazz subtlety, 'Con C.ALMA' invites listeners into a world where calm is an act of strength and presence is a form of art.
Euro-Caribbean-American singer songwriter Amana Melomé returns with “Con C.ALMA,” her first release in several years and a luminous new chapter.
This brand new single layers Melomé’s global sensibilities with the jazz-rooted soulfulness that defines her lineage, enhanced by a special feature from acclaimed pianist Deron Johnson, much celebrated for his work with Miles Davis, Stanley Clarke, and a host of influential jazz artists.
“Con C.ALMA,” which translates to “with calm,” in Spanish is both meditation and mantra. The stylized spelling, with the dot placed intentionally in C.ALMA, highlights the word alma (soul in Spanish), reflecting the deep peace and groundedness she has chosen to embody.
Melomé says:
Melomé recorded her vocals in Spain, where she now resides, while Johnson laid down his parts from Los Angeles, bringing a spacious elegance to the composition. Despite the distance, the two artists locked instantly into a shared emotional and musical pulse.
Johnson’s presence is especially meaningful for Melomé, whose jazz heritage is at the center of her story. Her grandfather, who was the legendary bassist Jimmy Woode, was the youngest member of Duke Ellington’s Orchestra and performed with icons such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Miles Davis. Her grandmother was a jazz vocalist, and her aunt, Shawnn Monteiro, remains an active force in the contemporary jazz scene. Melomé’s work, while more global and outward-looking, remains deeply connected to this lineage.
“Con C.ALMA” marks Melomé’s return after embracing years devoted to motherhood, a period she refers to lovingly as her time as a “Mama Unicorn.” Now, she steps forward in full creative bloom.

Her musical roots run deep. Melome’ is the granddaughter of legendary bassist Jimmy Woode, the youngest musician ever to join Duke Ellington’s orchestra, and the great-granddaughter of a jazz vocalist. Her aunt, renowned jazz singer Shawnn Monteiro, also carries the family torch—one Melome’ now continues in her own way.
Early releases such as Indigo Red and Lock and Key, along with collaborations with production teams like The Decoders, helped establish her signature mix of soulful warmth and jazz-infused storytelling.
After stepping back from the spotlight to embrace motherhood, Melomé returns with music shaped by renewed clarity, presence, and deeper artistic grounding ushering in a chapter that feels more intentional and authentically her than ever before.

Melomé says:
“Con C.ALMA is a song dear to my heart, as it is a frequency, an energy I embody daily. One could almost consider it a lifestyle, a chosen way of being.
Con CALMA translates from Spanish to with calm." CON CALMA EN EL ALMA [with calm in the soul]—I purposefully added the dot in the word to highlight the word ALMA, which means Soul. I chose to walk this earth with this inner peace in my soul!
The song is a gentle reminder to tune into that frequency, consciously, with an inner knowing that what is meant for you will find you when it's meant to be, knowing that life is unfolding in the perfect way, in perfect timing so no need to let the world rush you!
I am honored to have Deron Johnson featured on the track—he is brilliant and locked right into the poetic vibe of the song instantly, even though we were in two different continents while creating!"
