From a lifetime of breaking boundaries, leading an award-winning, DC-based hip-hop/fusion band, Miscellaneous Flux, and collaborating with numerous musical pioneers, guitarist Ben Tyree, at last, steps forward with his own ground-breaking, improvisational, sci-fi/jazz/funk trio project, BT3. On Thursday, December 17th at 9pm, Tyree will present BT3 at Rose Live Music (345 Grand St - btwn Havemeyer & Marcy - Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY).

Incorporating Coltrane-esque melodic sheets of sound, funk-derived and classical finger-style rhythm playing as well as chord voicings not typical to guitar arrangements, Tyree has established himself as one of the most versatile and creative musicians of his generation. With BT3, Tyree lays down powerful rhythms laced with cutting-edge improvisations and trancy sonic textures. Though progressive in form and intricacy, BT3's firm roots in groove are what make them so alluring.

Tyree's vision stems from studies of classical guitar, composition and jazz performance at Washington, D.C.'s Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Howard University as well as experiences with Miscellaneous Flux. Having collaborated with the likes of Vernon Reid, DJ Logic, and Kyp Malone (TV On The Radio), his musical vision has expanded broadly, as has the demand for his talent. Since re-locating to New York seven years ago, Tyree has been working steadily on various projects throughout the city, with Burnt Sugar: The Arkestra Chamber, MuthaWit, Nomi, Res, Elliot Sharp's SyndaKit, The Stephanie Rooker Band, and Soul Understated (feat. Mavis “Swan" Poole) amongst others.

BT3, freshly formed this year, has been astonishing audiences at The Blue Note, (the now defunct) Black Betty, and on 89.9 WKCR's Live Constructions with their daring and unique style of instrumental, and heavily improvisational jazz/funk fusion. Performing all original material composed by guitarist/band leader Ben Tyree, BT3 also features bassist Theo Harden, drummer Lawrence Qualls, and rotating members, including Steve Jenkins (bass), DJ Logic (turntables), Stephanie Rooker (vocals), and V. Jeffrey Smith (saxophones). The group is currently working on their first studio album, slated for release in 2010.
