Airing December 23, 1pm and 5pm:

Nas--the son of trumpeter-cornetist Olu Dara (who played with David Murray and Henry Threadgill)--will be interviewed at the renowned Blue Note for “Rap City," the BET TV series that showcases the established stars and up-and-comers of hip-hop. While a live band performs onstage, the 33-year-old Nas--born Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones--talks about his father and jazz, his influences, the current state of hip-hop, his favorite records and his latest release, Hip-Hop Is Dead. The show airs on Dec. 23, 2006 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The Blue Note, which just celebrated its 25th anniversary, has been considered America's premier jazz club since it opened its doors in 1981. Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles, Oscar Peterson, Tony Bennett and Sarah Vaughn are but a few of the jazz legends who have graced its stage.
