Asheville Percussion Festival Announces 2014 Schedule Of Events

The third annual Asheville Percussion Festival returns to Western North Carolina on June 20-22, 2014. Hosted by renowned multi-percussionist River Guerguerian and Jazz recording artist Lizz Wright, the three-day percussive arts festival will feature workshops, panels and performances led by acclaimed musicians from a variety of drumming concentrations. The event takes place in the scenic mountain town of Asheville, NC – a city noted for creativity, art, and collaboration.

The Asheville Percussion Festival invites percussionists of all levels and traditions from around the globe to gather, create, innovate, and learn from one another. Workshop topics will include performing, improvising, and composing taught by world-renowned performers including David Kuckhermann (hand pans/“cross-cultural” percussion), Sameer Gupta (tabla), Ferenc Nemeth (Jazz drumming), Lionel Loueke (percussive guitar), Marla Leigh (frame drum), Billy Jonas (family percussion), Naghmeh Farahmand (Persian drums), Adam Maalouf (Middle Eastern percussion), Adama Dembele (djembe), Nacho Arimany (Flamenco cajon), and more.

Friday, June 20 and Saturday, June 21 events are hosted in downtown Asheville at the Diana Wortham Theatre. Workshops start at 3 pm on Friday and 10 am on Saturday. Each night at 8 pm, an evening performance featuring teachers and guest artists will take place. On Sunday, June 22, the Asheville Percussion Festival will begin at 9:30 am at the OM Sanctuary in Asheville and will feature classes and demonstrations that incorporate movement with sound and rhythm.

Tickets are currently on sale through www.ashevillepercussionfestival.com. Weekend passes are $75 and include access to all workshops, lectures and performances held at Diana Wortham Theatre and OM Sanctuary. VIP passes are $150 and include attendace to all weekend events plus access to the week-long artist residencies taken place leading up to the festival. Tickets for evening concerts are $25 each. Tickets to a single workshop event are $20.
