Telvin is the Trio of Erkan Ogur, one of Turkey's top instrumentalists who started his career touring the blues in Mississippi. One day his regular guitar broke and he had to use his home-made fretless guitar. Guess what, it went down a storm. He returned to Turkey to champion ancient folk music, write a film score and apprear on loads of his mates' albums. For the last 10 years he has had a jazz trio Telvin; they've just released their first album 'Telvin' on Kalan. Erkan Ogur electric and acoustic fretted/fretless guitars and kopuz lute, Miami based painter Ilkin Deniz bass, and Turgut Alp Bekoglu (who plays with Ilhan Ersahin) drums.

Think Metheny/Haden meet Gismonti on a quiet night in Anatolia with a bit of Scofield electric thrown in, though it's not easy to compare with anyone when Erkan plays on kopuz lute. A really unique project.

“Erkan Ogur is one of those remarkable musicians who spins beguiling poetry out of his astonishing technique and passionate musicianship" Fiona Talkington, BBC Radio 3 Late Junction

“a player who does not waste a single note unless it is filtered through his soul, his fretless guitar playing is simpy magical." Antonio Forcione, Italian Guitarist

“a wonderful musician whose music has made an impact on my playing." Eivind Aarset, Norwegian Guitarist
