While the term “world music" is more of a marketing turn of phrase than a useful description, there's no doubt that a lot of interesting sounds get included in the category. Now Amazon.com is trying to encourage everyone to do a bit of audio globetrotting by offering free MP3 downloads of 30 different sampler albums of music from all over the world.

Of course, the good folks at Amazon.com are not without ulterior motives for their generosity. In this case, they'd like you to entice you into purchasing one or more of the “100 Greatest World Music Albums" of all time, which they've collected for your perusal here
