39th Festival International de Jazz de Montréal: Indoor program

As the 39th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal approaches, the entire city gets ready to plunge back into summer... And not just any old summer: a season of music in the street, major festive, friendly gatherings in the heart of downtown Montréal, wonderful discoveries and essential rendezvous! In other words, Summer the way only Montréal can do it! The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, presented by TD Bank Group in collaboration with Rio Tinto, is once again delighted this year to fill our vibrant downtown core with 150 concerts, where living legends share space with the finest young rising talents, where musicians from all over the world cross paths and talents, where the soul of jazz breaks free at the crossroads of genres and influences, proving now more than ever that the music is vividly alive at the heart of a scene bursting with creativity. The eternal watchword here? Quality! From June 28 to July 7, 2018, the only problem for fans from here, there and everywhere, thirsty for music and new discoveries, is choosing from a crazy range of possibilities. • June 29 / Jann Arden — Wonderful pop-rock singer Jann Arden brings us songs from her latest brill offering These Are the Days.
• June 30 / Dreamworks Animation in Concert — An evening to delight children of all ages, with the legendary soundtracks to Dreamworks animated films, performed by the Orchestre Métropolitain and accompanied by projections. Presented in collaboration with Radio-classique.
• July 1 / George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Rock Party Tour 2018 — A powerhouse high-energy evening of unleashed rock’n’roll with icons George Thorogood and the Destroyers.
• July 2 / Herbie Hancock | Thundercat — A living legend and a young lion cross paths for one unique soiree.
• July 3 / Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite. Opening act: Delgres — Four years after dazzling fans with their excellent duo blues project, these two pals return with a second shared release, No Mercy in this Land.
• July 4 / Ludovico Einaudi, Essential Einaudi — After a sellout concert in Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier last autumn, the neoclassical star brings a more rock-oriented version of his repertoire to the Centre Bell. Presented in collaboration with evenko.
• July 5 / Bonobo | St Germain — A double bill starring two artists who have left their indelible marks on electronica.
• July 7 / Ian Anderson presents: Jethro Tull, 50th Anniversary Tour — With 30+ albums and thousands of concerts to their credit, the illustrious UK group makes its debut Festival visit. Presented in collaboration with CHOM.

• June 28 / Snarky Puppy. Opening act: Tunnel — Instrumental fusion group Snarky Puppy return with their latest, Culcha Vulcha (Grammy winner for Besam jolyst Contemporary Instrumental Album).

History and passionate emotion join forces at 8 p.m. in the Nouveau Monde series.

June 26 to 30 (sold out), July 2 to 7 and July 10 to 14 / Robert Lepage, Ex Machina and Betty Bonifassi, SLĀV — Luxuriously visual, this landmark show transports us to the ancient origins of slave trade, from the segregation of African-Americans to their emancipation, to today’s mass incarceration and modern slavery.

• July 2 / Jackson MacIntosh — With his solo project My Dark Side, the singer unveils the more shadowy side of his intoxicating melodies.
• July 3 / Julie Doiron — It’s a major Festival premiere for an artist who’s spent 30 years performing all over the world. For this special occasion, she’ll dig deep into her vast repertoire.
• July 4 and 5 / Dominique Fils-Aimé — Semi-finalist on La Voix in 2015, Dominique Fils-Aimé presents her debut album, Nameless, at the crossroads of Africa and America, between the birth of the blues and vocal jazz.
• July 6 and 7 / Raveen — The latest project from prolific adoptive Montrealer Eric Seguin, Raveen delivered the delicate 2017 album Always: a dreamy ambience in a melancholy, melodic world.

The Festival on the small screen

The Festival International de Jazz de Montréal is pleased to announce that, through its partnership with MEZZO LIVE HD, several concerts will be filmed and broadcast live. Viewers and music lovers from all over the world will be able to see the live performance of renowned banjo player Belá Fleck on Sunday, July 1. The other recordings of the 39th edition of the Festival will be announced later.

A world standard in classical music, jazz and dance, MEZZO LIVE HD is celebrating its 22nd anniversary as a force on the European scene, as well as its third year operating in Canada. The 39th edition of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal will be held from June 28 to July 7, 2018.
