Charlotte, NC- Pride Magazine will host the 15th Annual Pride Sunset Jazz Festival September 8, 9 & 10, 2006. Wachovia is back as the presenting sponsor for the 4th year in a row. The Sunset Jazz Festival will be co-presented by Charlotte Shout, a month-long celebration of art and cultural, during the month of September. Charlotte Shout is produced by Charlotte Center City Partners (CCCP) and has been partnering with the Sunset Jazz Festival for the past 2 years. Torrey Feimster, the event organizer, states: “We are thrilled to have the continued support and commitment of these two outstanding organizations as well as our other sponsors. They consistently give back to the Charlotte community."
The Sunset Jazz Festival will be a three day uptown event, Friday through Sunday. Just like last year, the festival will showcase great jazz music from local, regional, and national performers. The jazz- filled weekend will kick off with an indoor concert at Halton Theater on CPCC's Central Campus, Friday September 8. Outdoor festivities begin Saturday, September 9 on “The Green" and end that Sunday, September 10 at the same location.
This year, the Sunset Jazz Festival is pleased to have on board the Afro-American Cultural Center (AACC) as a strategic partner and sponsor. They will assist with providing jazz workshops and evening entertainment. “This new alliance is a part of the Afro-American Cultural Center's strategy to substantially increase the number of partnerships and collaborations that we do," said Deon Bradley, newly- appointed AACC executive director. “The Festival is also the perfect opener to our mutual celebration of jazz and the rich history of African Americans who created what's known as America's classical music."
The AACC will be presenting, Jazz: A Story of a People, the same weekend as the Festival and will continue a yearlong extravaganza of performances, exhibitions, films and other programs that will enlighten our community.
