Musik For Seks Elektriske Guitarer: Musik For Seks Elektriske Guitarer
This project transforms Meldgaard's travel experiences into minimal compositions, based on extended repetition and microscopicyet danceablegrooves, as a departure point for climactic improvisations. The project was recorded at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival in 2010 and also at performances in Berlin and Oita, Japan with Danish guitarists from the avant-garde and rock scenes.
Unlike the African musical inspiration for this project, the compositions here reflect a Western musical legacyfrom the repetitive minimalism of Steve Reich to the rawness and reckless delivery of punk rock, as performed on the two longest compositions "Bubbletyggegummiboble PART 2, 3 & 4" and "På cykel mod solen som et ekkolod II." These multi-layered compositions navigate playfully and methodically into their cathartic, noisy and chaotic codas.
Other, shorter compositions like "Med klaverkøller som John Lennon," "Chuck Berry" and "Bubbletyggegummiboble PART 6" feature catchy, cyclical themes that can be part of any pop song. Only the gentle, semi-acoustic "Heliotropisk musik" and "C Heavy" sound inspired by West African blues guitar tradition.
A highly inventive and playful journey into the mysterious sonic possibilities of the electric guitar.
