Rocco Zifarelli

Rocco Zifarelli is the winner of the first edition of the Eddie Lang Award (1991), dedicated to young rising Italian jazz guitarists, for more than 20 years he is the guitarist of the Oscar winner Ennio Morricone, with whom he has recorded many soundtracks of prestigious films and performed hundreds of concerts in the best theaters and arenas from around the world.

Versatile musician, he has collaborated with many important national and international artists in various musical fields from jazz to pop, from the RAI TV Orchestra directed by M° Gianni Ferrio, Pippo Caruso, Peppe Vessicchio and Gianfranco Lombardi in many transmissions between which Fantastico and the Sanremo Festival, to the recordings with Giorgia, Adriano Celentano, Ivano Fossati, Renato Zero, Cristiano De Andrè etc. He’s performed in many jazz festivals in Italy and abroad with Antonello Salis, Stefano Di Battista, Rosario Giuliani, Steve Hunt, Jeff Berlin, Alex Sipiagin, Danny Gottlieb, Francis Lassus, Chander Sardjoe, Hadrien Feraud, Dede Ceccarelli, Dominique Di Piazza, Dario Deidda, Roberto Gatto, Pippo Matino and many others.

He has two CDs in his name, “Lyndon” published in ’98 by Via Veneto Jazz and distributed by Universal, and “Music Unites” released in January 2019 for his new label “ZETA Records“, featuring great musicians as Paco Sery, Linley Marthe and Matthew Garrison, the rhythm section of Joe Zawinul’s band.

In 2005, after an audition in New York, he joined the progressive jazz-rock band of the “Mahavishnu Project“, with Steve Hunt, Gregg Bendian, Rob Thomas and with whom he toured the United States and Europe. While in 2009, after an audition in Paris, he joined the “Defunkt“, an iconic american funk-jazz-rock collective founded by trombonist and singer Joe Bowie, touring Europe many times and recording the CD “Mastervolt” in 2015.

In 2018 he’s been invited, along with Nathan East and Harvey Mason, to be part of the rhythm section of the Quincy Jones 85th Birthday Concert at the Umbria Jazz Festival 2018, performing for artists such as Take 6, Ivan Lins, Noa, Patti Austin, Dee Dee Bridgewater etc., directed by John Clayton and Quincy Jones himself.

He currently teaches Jazz and Pop-Rock Guitar at the Conservatories of Milan and L’Aquila.
