Snaggle
The driving force behind Snaggle has always been one of genre-blurring, cross-pollinated musical experimentation and exploration. On a small scale they incorporate elements from a variety of different genres (rock, funk, metal, classical) and contextualize them within the jazz background and training that the group shares. On a large scale their goal is to create music that evolves and progresses in a very developed and intentional manner (much like a Beethoven symphony) while maintaining the excitement and spontaneity of improvised music as well as the infectious and visceral qualities of funk, pop and rock.
In 2013 the band independently released it’s debut, self titled album featuring compositions by band leader Nick Maclean and bassist Doug Moore. In 2015 the band released an EP project entitled ‘Unexpected Guests’ which was produced in collaboration with three Toronto vocalists: Denielle Bassels, Will Bowes and Mara Nesrallah. After joining the Browntasaurus Records artist roster in June 2015 Snaggle has been hard at work on their second full-length studio album ‘The Long Slog’ in collaboration with acclaimed trumpet player Brownman Ali. This album is set for release October 2nd, 2016.
As well as being a riveting live band, Snaggle is deeply committed to their educational outreaches to the community. This has taken the form of jazz improvisation workshops that Snaggle has been bringing to high school music programs across Southern Ontario for the past 4 years.
