Nick Millevoi

Nick Millevoi is a guitarist and composer whose music searches for the sonic cracks between jazz, rock and roll, noise, and modern composition. An intrepid composer, Millevoi confronts everything from maximal electric power trio music to chamber music to large scale improvisation heavy ensemble pieces, and everything in between. With his band, Desertion Trio, featuring bassist Johnny DeBlase and drummer Kevin Shea, Millevoi approaches the many styles of American electric guitar music from an avant garde angle. He also co-leads Hollen-voi, with guitarist Matt Hollenberg, formed to perform new compositions by composer John Zorn. Nick was a member of the collective power trio Many Arms, releasing five full-length records, including two for John Zorn’s Tzadik label, played guitar in the Hassidic-based doom metal band Deveykus (Tzadik), and was a member of Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band, contributing to the band’s critically acclaimed The Rarity of Experience (No Quarter). As a performer of modern guitar repertoire and as a member of chamber duo Archer Spade, Nick has had the opportunity to perform works by Derek Bailey, Mick Barr, Roscoe Mitchell, Dave Soldier, Gene Coleman, and many others. Nick's music has been released by labels such as Tzadik, ShhPuma/Clean Feed, New Atlantis, Gaffer, The Flenser, Sick Room, and Public Eyesore. As a performer in many different projects, Nick regularly tours throughout the US and Europe, and has performed at festivals such as Gaffer Fest (France), Incubate (Netherlands), Mission Creek Festival (US), the Montreal Jewish Music Festival, Nelsonville Music Festival (US), the New Atlantis Festival (DC), Suoni Per Il Popolo (Canada), and John Zorn's Masada Book Three Premiere concert at New York's Town Hall and Ultimate Bagatelles Marathon.

NPR Music says, “When Nick Millevoi plays the guitar, it's like a rocket darting skyward between clouds.” Pitchfork has described his sound as, “Music that seeks the sun by exploding toward it.” Brooklyn Vegan calls Millevoi, "An attacking chessmaster, tossing out chameleonesque scales and runs." Millevoi's music has been reviewed by Noisey, SPIN, NPR Music, The Onion AV Club, Wire magazine, and many others.

Bryan Murray & Jon Lundbom: Beats by Balto! Vol. 2

Read "Beats by Balto! Vol. 2" reviewed by Mark Corroto

Spinning Beats by Balto Vol. 2 in the midst of a global pandemic brings to mind a quote from Zack de la Rocha: “Fear is your only god on the radio." The Rage Against The Machine frontman is begging you to turn off your radio, but somehow you just can't turn off Balto!'s beats. The brain-child of guitarist Jon Lundbom and Bryan Murray (Bryan And The Haggards, Big Five Chord), the spine-tingling essence of this music confirms what ...

Nick Millevoi, a young guitarist and composer of jny: Philadelphia, likes to surprise, as the sheer diversity of his project demonstrates. He has the innate curiosity of the best music explorers and is equally at ease composing for large ensembles as for small rock bands. As his bio aptly puts it, Nick Millevoi is a guitarist and composer whose music searches for the sonic cracks between jazz, rock and roll, noise, and modern composition. 1. Jeff Parker: ...

Grandi brani e l'intero album possiede uno straordinario groove, è divertente e ha un suono unico. 02. Grant Green -Goin' West (Blue Note -1969). Nick Millevoi: Desertion

Read "Desertion" reviewed by Vincenzo Roggero

Nick Millevoi: Desertion

Read "Desertion" reviewed by Glenn Astarita

Hailing from Philadelphia, guitarist Nick Millevoi possesses a comprehensive music vernacular and has recorded albums with the band Many Arms for John Zorn's Tzadik label amid his collaborations with renowned jazz artists and affiliations with other groups. Indeed, he's an adventure seeker and experimentalist. The guitarist employs top-flight session/solo artists, keyboardist Jamie Saft and drummer Ches Smith to round out a tightknit coalition via a program largely erected on brooding thematic currents. Millevoi's crunching chords, off-center phrasings and ...
