Arthur Schutt

Arthur Schutt (November 21, 1902 – January 28, 1965) began his professional music career in 1915, accompanying silent movies on the piano. In 1918 he began playing with the Paul Specht Orchestra as a teenager and stayed with Specht for several years. He travelled with the band to London in 1923 where he recorded two piano novelty records for the Regal label.

Throughout the 1920s he worked with numerous bands including the Roger Wolfe Kahn Orchestra. By the late 1920s Schutt was a sought after studio musician in New York and he appeared on a great many records with jazz greats such as Bix Beiderbecke, Red Nichols, Frankie Trumbauer, Joe Venuti and Benny Goodman.

In the 1930s, Schutt led his own band in New York. In the 1940s and 1950s, he worked as a studio musician at MGM in Hollywood. He died in 1965, in San Francisco.
