Terence Collie
At age 12 after his parents bought a keyboard, Terence knew that making music was to be his career path. He began as a self-taught keyboard player with a great ear for learning pop tunes and at 17 joined a band based in Jersey C.I.
Between 1988 and 1995 he was predominantly working and gigging on the Island’s hotels, pubs and nightclubs. During this period Terence really got heavily into jazz, performing weekly at the Blue Note Jazz Bar and learning so much from the more experienced musicians. He focused on Jazz Piano and had some private classical piano lessons to help with technique and reading music and within various jazz lineups, got the opportunity to play supportive concert slots for Teddy Edwards, The Average White Band, Georgie Fame, Andy Sheppard and Jason Rebello along with being asked to perform with Digby Fairweather.
Terence returned to the UK mainland in the late 90’s and acquired a 6-days-a-week residency at Pizza Express in Cambridge playing solo piano during the week and duos at the weekends, a great learning experience to build a large jazz repertoire.
In the early 2000s he obtained a diploma in music through the Open University.
In 2011 he started a jazz-fusion group called Prison Break playing his own compositions. Terence recorded two albums with this group as an entry into self-recording and producing, initially recording at home and friends’ houses.
In 2013 to date, he began a partnership called Mood Indigo Events putting on high-quality jazz events and concerts including five TW12 Jazz Festivals with many well known and high-profile international artists taking part. He now gets to perform monthly with some of the best jazz musicians on the scene at his curated events including Riverside Arts Jazz and Jazz on the Plaza.
As a sideman jazz pianist he has performed with artists including The Kyle Eastwood Band, Aisling Iris, Zoë Gilby, Simon Spillett, Greg Abate, Rob Lavers, Gabriel Garrick, Tony Woods and Jo Harrop at many of the top jazz clubs in the UK including The 606, The Vortex, Pizza Express Jazz Club - Soho, The Verdict, Hampstead Jazz Club, The Stables - Wavendon, The Pheasantry, Southampton Modern Jazz Club, Peterborough Jazz Club, Mill Hill Jazz Club, Bracknell Jazz, Guildford Jazz, Bexley Jazz Club, Fleece Jazz, Berkhamsted Jazz, The Bear Club, Jazz Cafe POSK, The Jazz Cafe and festivals including the Jersey Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Lichfield Festival, Birmingham Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz Festival and the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
