Alessandro Florio

Alessandro Florio is an Italian jazz guitarist, composer, educator, and bandleader whose work bridges the rich tradition of jazz with a distinctive contemporary voice. Over the course of his career, he has established himself as an internationally active artist, performing throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia alongside some of the most respected figures in jazz.

In 2026, Florio released Controra Avenue, recorded in New York with acclaimed saxophonist Troy Roberts, Kyle Koehler and Carmen Intorre Jr. Since its release, Controra Avenue has received widespread critical acclaim, earning highly favorable reviews from specialized international jazz publications and further strengthening Florio’s reputation on the contemporary jazz scene.

His previous recordings as a leader include Back to the Blue Coast (AlfaMusic/Egea, 2020), featuring his Italian trio with special guest Ernesto Aurignac and presenting a compelling blend of original compositions and jazz standards; Roots Interchange (2015), an international project recorded between Italy and the United States with Pat Bianchi and Carmen Intorre Jr., the renowned rhythm section of the legendary Pat Martino Trio; and Taneda (2014), a recording inspired by the music and spirit of Thelonious Monk.

A graduate of the Civica Scuola di Jazz in Milan, where he studied with the legendary Italian guitarist Franco Cerri, Florio later earned both a Bachelor's degree in Guitar, Arranging and Composition and a Master's degree in Jazz Performance from the Prince Claus Conservatoire in the Netherlands. His studies brought him regularly between Europe and New York, where he studied with distinguished jazz masters including Freddie Bryant, Mark Whitfield, Peter Bernstein, Paul Bollenback, Ed Cherry and many others. In 2013, he was awarded a prestigious Jazz Performance Scholarship from the Prince Claus Conservatoire.

Throughout his career, Florio has collaborated and performed around the world with internationally acclaimed artists such as Franco Cerri, Troy Roberts, Pat Bianchi, Seamus Blake, Don Braden, Jumaane Smith, Alex Sipiagin, Freddie Bryant, Fabrizio Bosso, Stefano Di Battista, Flavio Boltro, Dario Deidda, James Senese, Tullio De Piscopo, Tony Esposito, Ernesto Aurignac, and many others.

Since 2017, he has been the lead guitarist of Un'Orchestra per Pino Daniele, performing alongside members of Pino Daniele’s historic band. He is also often working a member of Tullio De Piscopo & Friends, the Tony Esposito Sextet, and the Flavio Boltro Double Drums Sextet.

Alongside his performing career, Florio is a dedicated educator and researcher. He has taught Jazz Guitar at several Italian conservatories and currently holds a tenured professorship at the G.F. Ghedini Conservatory in Cuneo.
