Joshua Moshe

Joshua Moshe is an award-winning saxophonist, composer, and educator based in Melbourne. Born in South Africa and raised in New Zealand, he spent his formative years immersed in the musical cultures of both countries before relocating to Melbourne in 2010. Over the past 15 years, Joshua has emerged as a leading figure in Australia’s contemporary jazz scene, recognised for a distinctive artistic voice that blends the traditional musics of his upbringing with contemporary expressive forms.

Rooted in jazz, his work draws on diverse influences, from hip-hop and electronica to the folk traditions of his ancestry. Joshua synthesises and transforms these elements, embracing the improvisatory and expressive qualities of jazz to create music that is both innovative and deeply connected to tradition.

His debut album under his own name, Inner Search (2023), earned critical acclaim and a nomination for the Australian Music Prize. Joshua has also been recognised with the Music Victoria Award for Best Jazz Release (2023) and the PBS Young Elder of Jazz Award (2019), alongside nominations for the ARPA AMCOS Art Music Award and Music Victoria Awards for Best Musician and Best Jazz Album.

Alongside his performance and compositional work, Joshua remains deeply committed to mentoring young musicians, creating opportunities for emerging artists to develop their craft. His newest album, Art Don’t Lie, includes eight original compositions recorded with an international ensemble, and will be released in July 2026. Meanwhile, he continues to perform with his jazz trio and his ensemble Erez, which reimagines traditional Jewish music. In addition, he is working on his first feature-length film score, and is an in-demand collaborator across diverse projects, extending the boundaries of contemporary jazz while integrating traditional influences.
