Will St Peter
After earning his undergraduate degree in music education, St Peter cut his teeth in the Northeast jazz scene while teaching in Maine’s public schools for three years.
St Peter quickly became a fixture in the Dallas-Forth Worth jazz scene while earning his Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Texas, where he studied under Davy Mooney. He is currently a Teaching Fellow at UNT as he pursues his doctoral degree in Jazz Performance.
In 2019, he was recognized as a semifinalist at the Wilson Center Guitar Festival's Jazz Competition.

Will St Peter - Steven Heffner - Steve Barnes: Honestly

by Jack Bowers
Smooth can be charming. Mellow likewise. And the same can be said for easygoing. On Honestly, guitarist Will St Peter's trio presents an hour of smooth, mellow, easygoing jazz that is both charming and tasteful. There are few fireworks here, simply three accomplished musicians calmly yet firmly expressing their collaborative point of view. While St Peter (he uses no punctuation after St") sets the melodic tone, he leans heavily on bassist Steven Heffner and drummer Steve Barnes ...

Henry Mancini's song Days Of Wine and Roses" is a classy bit of music. Written for the 1962 movie of the same name, it was much recorded, most successfully by vocalist Andy Williams. And, for jazz aficionados, guitarist Wes Montgomery served up a superb version on his Boss Guitar (Riverside Records, 1963). The album Honestly, by guitarist Will St. Peter, bassist Steven Heffner and drummer Steve Barnes, opens with the Mancini gem, in a fashion more understated than ...

Jon Burlingame on Peter Gunn

JazzWax by Marc Myers
In the late 1950s, millions of Americans were undergoing a midlife crisis. From their perspective, rock 'n' roll had turned their kids into teenage adversaries who took all of their hard work during World War II and the post-war years for granted. As baby boomers aged and the culture began shifting to a younger demographic, many middle aged men trapped in jobs yearned for their youth and freedom, while many women grew weary of their many thankless tasks in suburban ...

Backgrounder: Jazz Sounds From Peter Gunn

Source:
JazzWax by Marc Myers
One could argue that Henry Mancini picked up where Bill Holman left off. As noted earlier this week, Bill's arrangements for recordings captured the sound of 1950s Los Angeles' jazzy cool, with his charts clutch-shifting like brand-new cars cruising the region's many freeways. Mancini's music, by contrast, was for TV and the movies, and captured the city's jazzy, sleek elegance as well as the cool of stardom and wealth. In effect, Mancini widened out Holman's sound of catchy melodies using ...

Lola Albright Sings in 'Peter Gunn'

In the Peter Gunn TV series (1958-1961), Lola Albright played Edie Hart, the singing sultry girlfriend of Gunn, played by Craig Stevens. Lately, Youtubers have been uploading clips of her singing in the series. So while I'm away this weekend (no, I didn't impulsively split for Sicily), I'm leaving you with clips of Lola in action at Mother's, Gunn's hangout, with Victor Feldman on vibes throughout: Here's I Didn't Know What Time It Was... Here's How About You... Here's Too ...

Keyboardist And Brian Eno Collaborator Peter Chilvers And Guitarist Jon Durant Create A Series Of Stunningly Beautiful Aural Vistas

Source:
Glass Onyon PR - Keith James
English keyboardist and Brian Eno collaborator Peter Chilvers teamed up with American guitarist Jon Durant to create a series of stunningly beautiful aural vistas, which blend ECM inspired chamber jazz improvisation with ambient music. For both artists, this recording was an opportunity to explore their introspective sides as well as their textural tendencies. Gentle melodies weave their way through atmospheric clouds, at times reminiscent of Budd and Eno, but with a sense of interplay between the guitar and keys those ...
