Krissy Bergmark

Krissy Bergmark is a tabla player, percussionist, improviser, and educator whose work bridges classical Indian traditions with contemporary and cross-genre expression. Rooted in her study with Pandit Yogesh Samsi of the Punjab Gharana, Bergmark brings tabla into new sonic contexts through improvisation, composition, and collaboration.

Her work has been supported by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE), the Jerome Foundation, the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, and the Minnesota State Arts Board, among others. She is a founding member of the progressive folk trio Sprig of That, whose debut album bloom (2023) was produced by Wes Corbett and engineered by Grammy-winner Dave Sinko.

Bergmark is a professor of music at Oakton College. Her ongoing solo projects, including Body of Water and Everything’s Glacial Shine, explore sound as a vessel for memory, inheritance, and transformation.
