Romanian jazz pianist, composer and Yamaha Artist Sorin Zlat is an internationally acclaimed musician and award-winning performer, recognized for his distinctive blend of contemporary jazz, virtuosity, lyricism and improvisation.
Sorin Zlat is a Romanian jazz pianist, composer, arranger and Yamaha Artist whose career has been marked by major international awards and performances at renowned jazz festivals and venues across Europe and the United States. He became the first non-American winner of the Great American Jazz Piano Competition in Jacksonville, Florida, and has also received major international distinctions at the Montreux Jazz Festival, Monaco International Jazz Soloist Competition and Getxo Jazz Festival. Zlat has performed internationally at festivals and venues including Montreux Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Getxo Jazz Festival, Monaco Jazz Festival, Jaffa Jazz Festival, Izmir Jazz Festival, JEN Jazz Conference, Blue Note Jazz Club New York, Birdland New York, Ronnie Scott’s London, Kings Place London, NCPA Mumbai, Vortex Jazz Club London, PizzaExpress Live Soho and Sunset-Sunside Paris, among others. His music combines contemporary jazz, improvisation and a strong melodic language with influences ranging from classical music and modern jazz to cinematic writing. As a composer and arranger, he is also particularly interested in the relationship between jazz and film music, an area that has become an important part of his artistic and academic work. Zlat has collaborated and performed with numerous internationally recognized musicians, including Tony Lakatos, Stefano di Battista, Rick Margitza, Ashley Pezzotti, Woody Witt, Baptiste Herbin, Howard Levy, Gianni Gagliardi and Riley Stone-Lonergan, among others. His discography includes Endurance, The Land of Dreams, RoJazz and At the End of July. His new trio album, Changing Times, is scheduled for release in November 2026 and features his original compositions, reflecting a musical language that moves between lyrical introspection, rhythmic intensity and cinematic expression. Alongside his performing career, Zlat is active as a composer, arranger and educator. He studied Composition for Screen at the Royal College of Music in London and is currently pursuing doctoral research at the National University of Music Bucharest, focusing on jazz in film music. Sorin Zlat has been a Yamaha Artist since 2019.
