Since the 1980s, Dianne Reeves has reigned as a master jazz vocalist, celebrated for a seemingly effortless technique that applies to straight-ahead jazz, R&B, and pop-jazz. Her signature style shines through perfectly traversed vocal runs, a warm timbre and an intimate, improvised dialogue with her audience. On "When You Know," Reeves plucks a gem of a pop-folk song--originally performed by Shawn Colvin for the romantic comedy film Serendipity—and transforms it thoroughly. Reharmonized and arranged for Reeves by the gifted composer and pianist Billy Childs, the track becomes a pulsing, passionate exploration of finding the right partner in love. The performance builds into a chant-like outro showcasing the nuanced touch of her entire band. Enjoy this showcase of an artist who knows exactly how to make a song her own.
