About the Album

After three studio recordings and one live recording as simply [em], this German piano trio has been renamed Michael Wollny's [em],to reflect the pianist's leadership role, despite the still egalitarian nature of both the group's writing and approach to trio interaction. It's too easy to look for someone to replace departed star Esbjörn Svensson, and while Wollny's playing has little to do with the late Swiss pianist, [em]'s youthful energy and tradition-busting approach does make it an act to check out for fans of the now-defunct Swedish trio. Also featuring bassist Eva Kruse and drummer Eric Schaefer.
