About the Album
"Vai," from Brazilian trombonist Dr. Felipe Brito's upcoming album “Não Deixe para Amanhã,” was composed when Brito began experimenting with variations upon the standard samba rhythm, and then reapplied them in the context of a melody. The word "Vai" translates from Portuguese as "Go", but its meaning represents something deeper. “The word 'vai' tells you to not overthink it and just go for it," Brito says. This carpe diem attitude is captured well in the piece’s structure and build, which begins tense, climbing chromatically before eventually resolving into a samba-jazz fusion.
