About the Album
The gifted trombonist/composer NIck Adema almost quit music when his mother passed away right after Adema had relocated from Canada to Amsterdam. Instead he created “Urban Chaos,” a powerful recording of original material that explores life, loss, and the modern city. Adema’s core quartet, which also include pianist Joy Shechter, bassist Azubike Onwuka and drummer Chen Har-Even – are joined by guests that include saxophonist Noah Preminger, a string quartet, vocalist Liva Dumpe, and Adema’s effective use of electronic processing. “The Fool” features both the string quartet and Preminger. Adema and Preminger work in tandem, creating a powerful, emotionally charged sound as the piece weaves its way from a minimalist start to a powerful climax.
